Voice over the Software Defined Cognitive Packet Network

چکیده
Voice over IP (VOIP) networks have strict Quality of Service (QoS) constraints and require real-time packet delivery which poses a major challenge to IP networks. The Cognitive Packet Network (CPN) has been designed as a Software Defined Network Substrate that provides user-oriented QoS by adaptively routing packets based on online sensing and measurement. We therefore design and evaluate a “Voice over CPN” system that matches the needs of voice packet delivery in the presence of background traffic under varied traffic conditions. The QoS “goal” function that addresses “Jitter” according to its definition in RFC3393 has been incorporated in CPN via new functionalities that support multiple QoS classes for multiple traffic flows. The resulting system is evaluated via measurements of packet delay, delay variation (jitter) and packet loss for the voice and the background traffic.

متن کاملEnhancing the quality of Internet voice communication for Internet telephony systems
Internet real-time voice communication involves transmitting digitised voice signals which can be lost in the packet switched network environment of TCP/IP, thereby causing intermittent voice losses and quality degradations. Various methods such as silence substitution, waveform substitution, sample interpolation, Xor mechanism, embedded speech coding, and combined rate and control mechanism ha...
متن کاملController Placement in Software Defined Network using Iterated Local Search
Software defined network is a new computer network architecture who separates controller and data layer in network devices such as switches and routers. By the emerge of software defined networks, a class of location problems, called controller placement problem, has attracted much more research attention. The task in the problem is to simultaneously find optimal number and location of controll...
متن کاملA new Telecom Architecture for the Convergence of TDM with IP and usage in Internet of Things
Historically, Telecom Networks were a Mixture of TDM/Circuit Switched and Packet/Datagram based and used techniques such as TDMoIP and IPoTDM for internetwork communication. Voice and Data Networks were separate. NGN was envisioned as a pathway towards a converged ALL-IP network capable to cater to Voice, Video and Data services. Around 2005, newer services such as SAN’s, NAS’s, CDN’s, WSNs, Lo...
متن کاملDeployment of VoIP Technology: QoS Concerns
Voice over IP (VoIP) is an emerging communication service allowing voice transmission over a private or a public IP network. VoIP allows significant benefits for customers and service providers including cost savings, phone and service portability, mobility, and the integration with other applications. Nevertheless, the deployment of the VoIP technology encounters many challenges such as intero...
